On May 19, 2017, the Chinese Minister for Human Resources and Social Security, Mr. Yin Weimin, and the Spanish Minister for Employment and Social Security, Ms. Fátima Báñez, signed a bilateral social security agreement between China and Spain.  In accordance with the agreement, Spanish employees in China, and Chinese employees in Spain, may be exempt from mandatory social security contributions (pension and unemployment insurance) in their host country but remain in their home country system.  The agreement will still have to pass legal procedures in the respective countries and then come into effect.

Now there are several bilateral social security agreements concluded by China, including with Germany, South Korea, Denmark, Finland, Canada, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and France.
